Happening Now: Fall Running
I’m pumped for fall training this year.
Why, yes, you are on the right blog and no, no one is ghost writing it.
I, Shenanigans, am ready for the fall running season. Probably for the first time in like 4 years.
There are two main reasons for the excitement.
1. The weather.
I’m super pumped over this Virginia life. So far.

I don’t notice the humidity- too much, anyway.
I had a mild winter here, a pretty awesome spring, a mostly mellow summer and last week it was in the 60s every morning.
I’ll take it.
ps- note I’m excited about FALL training, not winter. I know what’s coming and can’t seem me suddenly embracing true cold running. I’ll stick to the gym treadmill, thank you!

I see a snowflake— did we just become best friends?
2. My last half marathon.
I’m pretty sure it’s time to retire from long distances.
I don’t like to say never again— but I just don’t enjoy the training or the races anymore.
But I am looking forward to running a favorite half at Disneyland one last time.
After 2 solid years of barely limping by on the mileage, I’m making a commitment to, you know, actually train.
It still won’t be fast, but my goals for this final race include finishing feeling like I could go a few more miles.
I know if I spend the time on my legs and feet, then I will be fine finishing the race with a smile.
I’m really just hoping to finish and not hate a single step of the race. That’s not too big a goal to reach for, right? Ha!
With kids back in school and the weather cooling off, I’m getting the running groove back- and it feels good.

So pretty here! I can’t wait to see the leave change color.
Bring on the fall, y’all!

I am just coming out of winter and my treadmill really saved me. I hate using it to be honest, but it salvaged my training schedule over winter. But now I am glad to return to outdoor running! Best of luck this fall/winter and looking forward to that Disney Race Recap – hope you have so much fun and enjoy it one last time!
Thank you so much- hope your re-entry to the outside is successful!
Fall is the BEST time in Virginia. I could live in October all year round and be a happy camper and this year, so far, September is being very Octoberish. Good luck with your training. I’m still a lover of the half marathon, but after next year (and my 5th MCM which means Runners Club), I may take a break for a while.
Oh gosh, you run so many races I’m in awe! A break might be needed- never hurts to try give yourself time to miss it. 🙂
Fall weather is nice to run outside, but I’m with ya in the winter. It is treadmill all the way!
Yes maam! I happen to love it, so it’s not a problem lol
Hooray for fall! I do not mind fall running in northeast Ohio. I do hate winter though because it gets very very cold and sometimes icy which makes it very hard to run.
Yes, I worry about the ice. I probably will be on the treadmill this winter.
I’m still in denial that fall is here (and the Big W…) is close behind. UGH. My summer was sort of a bust, so the fall has all kinds of potential 😉
Let’s DO THIS!
Yay for getting your running mojo back and being excited to RUN! Good luck training for your last half marathon. Hope you’re able to enjoy all the runs!!
Thank you!
I’m looking forward to fall too in Boulder. Dallas didn’t really have fall. OK, maybe a couple weeks, and it was never the fall I had in Boston. Those crisp temps that make me love the season, but then warm up just enough during the day.
Oh gosh yes! I think this will be my first real fall ever. Well, I take that back. TN did have a lovely fall.
I absolutely love the fall! How exciting that you’re gearing up for half marathon training. It must be bittersweet for this to be your last go-round, but hopefully you have a great time in the process!
fall running is always my favorite! Happy running
